Bethany Beach Adds EV Charging Stations Around Town

It’s about to get a little bit easier for EV drivers to charge up at the beach! If you thought finding parking was a challenge in Bethany Beach, drivers of electric vehicles can tell you that locating a charging spot can be equally frustrating. However, local officials are addressing these discrepancies with additional charging stations. In total, Bethany Beach is welcoming eight new charging stations that will double as parking spaces, charging a $2 per hour fee for both parking and charging your vehicle. Residents can find two of these new resources on South Pennsylvania Avenue across from the PNC Bank, as well as four next to the Blue Crab Restaurant, and two on North Pennsylvania Avenue across from the Lighthouse Station. According to Town Manager Cliff Graviet, Bethany Beach decided to invest in more charging stations for the community after witnessing the success of a similar program in Ocean City, Maryland, through Baltimore’s Electric Vehicle Institute. The EVI facilitates the installation and maintenance of a city’s stations for five years. Bethany Beach’s recent move to add EV charging stations joins several recent and ongoing Sussex County technology updates. For example, Delaware’s first app- and telephone-based on-demand microtransit service launched in Georgetown. To stay updated on the latest in Bethany Beach, see https://www.townofbethanybeach.com/.
