With the foundation laid, construction is beginning for a new mixed-use development in Kennett Square. A collaborative effort has been ongoing to bring the community a complex of retail and housing that will benefit residents and visitors on East Cypress Street. The site, where only walls are standing, will eventually include 13-acres of green plazas and walking trails, 56 townhomes, and a collection of apartments above ground-floor retail and commercial space. “Kennett Pointe” is the vision of Don Robitzer, Senior Vice President and COO of The Commonwealth Group and co-founder of Montchanin Builders. Robitzer reflects that his company took local input into account when developing a project that would benefit Kennett Square residents. The development aims to establish a community within a community and has incorporated brick into Kennett Pointe’s design that reflects the visual aesthetic of Kennett Square’s surrounding neighborhoods. Furthermore, local shops, businesses, and access to the amenities of the Greater Philadelphia area add to the allure of Kennett Pointe. Kennett Township’s Director of Planning and Zoning, Diane Hicks, describes the mixed-use development as a first of its type for the Township. Look for some of Kennett Pointe’s townhomes to be ready by this summer, with the remainder of the mixed-use site opening in 2023.
